ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

SP Fonster is a member of TRATEK, which is the Swedish Institute for Wood Technology Research.

All manufacturing processes and activities have an impact on the environment. The challenge is to minimise the impact and this is achieved by product life cycle assessments. The company is also subject to licensing controls and satisfies existing requirements that relate to the internal control of the working environment.

These range of requirements, and how they are met, is substantiated in an environmental declaration. Simply use the Contact Us feature to request this declaration.

The main resources used are as follows;

Timber

Environmentally sound, low embodied energy, fully re-cyclable design, utilising timber drawn from Forestry Stewardship Council accredited forests.

Glass

The primary raw material for uncoated glass consists of abundant natural resources.

Energy

With a standard window specification U value of 1.6w/m2K, the energy required during manufacture is a minute percentage of the total energy savings made during use measured over a thirty-year life span.

Waste

It is in the interests of any manufacturer to minimise waste from the production process. The major area of waste is sawdust and off-cuts from the wood selection and machining processes. This is used to provide the majority of the fuel to heat the factory.

Life

The timber is guaranteed for thirty years against rot.
The painted timber will not require re-painting within eight years of manufacture, provided that it receives a basic inspection and cleaning at least once a year.
The glass and the metal fittings are guaranteed for ten years.

Re-use & recycling

It is mainly the glass and the metal based fittings which have the largest potential for recycling. However all elements of the window can be recycled, the exceptions being the paint, filling compounds and adhesives.
